Thatta Historical City
Living in
historical city of Sindh (Thatta) and ignoring its beauty is bit arrogant and
tough, and after realizing this fact I decided to personally visit my city, at
first I decided to visit Makli Necropolis, before writing its beauty I thought
I should write its little history, Makli has historical monuments and capital
of three successive dynasties, after that later ruled by Delhi’s Mughals.
Thatta was established from the 14th to 18th century,
Makli necropolis are largest in the world different kings, queens, governors,
saints, scholars and philosophers are buried here, and their graves are
lavishly decorated with different beautiful bricks.
My journey
was refreshing and relaxing because I started my journey at the end days of
November, the wind was cool and the atmosphere forced me to take hot cup of tea
at nearby ‘dhaba’ where chacha (dhabas’s owner) made special tea, his tea
forced me to became more active, after completing tea and planning my thatta
tour when I finally took courage to enter at Makli’s historical monuments I was
amazed with its beauty, that place was crowded with so many beautiful people,
some were resident taking care of our historical place, some were doing
different activates for their earning and other were tourist and researchers,
Jogies were doing their job they were earning their wages by making snake dance
with their music and their main activity for earning money was “Sanp Newila ki
ladai”, tourist were spending loads of money for their fight, after watching
that scene I decided to continue my journey, soon I reached at first tomb were
group of boys were taking their pictures and some were making tiktoks, their I
saw some tourist who were from Punjab after having conversation I knew how
excited they were about thatta’s tour they were amazed by its beauty, later I
saw some little kids were begging because they were only person at their home
who were earning, after that car I saw their which was not exactly private car,
that car were provided by management because private transport is ban there,
historical monument made me shocked, its buildings were so beautiful their art
was flawless, but due to construction work many tombs were closed their so I
decided to visit my second location.
As I am
little adventures I decided to took short cut from mountains and then went to
Mata Shing Bhawani Devi Mandir, temple’s architecture was so beautiful, its
infra-structure was amazing, since temple is very respectable and religious
place of Hindu brothers and sisters and the time when I entered their was time
of their prayers so I quietly visited after taking permission from Maharaj
(pundit), temple was very quiet place and there statues of Lord Krishna, Lord
Vishnu, Lord Ganesh, Lord Hanuman, Lord Maa Kali, Lord Mata Rani, Lord Shiva
and many other respectful Lords statues were there, at temple I saw a beautiful
well in which Hindu brothers and sisters have believe that if they will through
coin on that well their wish will be fill full, after visiting temple I went to
dhaba where I ate meal, visiting both places made me so tired, that I decided
to continue my visit to next day, the other reason of not continuing my visit
was that it was so late and darkness were bringing hurdles in my tour, so I
took my essentials and went back to my home.
The second
day of my tour was more interesting the reason behind by excitement was that I
was going to very beautiful and historical lake that is Khenjhar Lake (Karli
jheel), khenjhar lake is also called as Malik Lake, whose area is 134.7km (2),
length is 24 km, width is 6km and average depth is 1m (3ft 3in), khenjhar is
famous for Nori Jam Tama chi. Tomb of Nori Jam Tama chi have history, their love
tale is famous worldwide.
As khenjhar
lake is bit away from my home so I took car with me since it was early morning
and drive was about 30 minutes, the weather at early morning was so soothing,
sun was slowly rising, birds were singing and every person was going at their
work, due to beautiful cold weather my tour became full of excitement, when I
entered in boundaries of lake there were strange excitement my heart was full
of joy, at first I saw group of kids who were playing games and workers there were
doing their work, but strange thing I noticed there were so much quietness and
there were no boat there and as khenjhar is place which is always filled with
so much crowd, this question was so much disturbing me so I finally took
courage of asking question from one of the resident, he replied Adi the reason
behind this issue is winter season and the other reason they told mostly people
visit khenjhar lake for boating and nowadays boating is ban, reason of banning
boats were recently a family of karachi faced tragic accident, this reason made
me upset but made me happy at same time at least they are trying to bring
changes for betterment they were working on issuing license to boat owners,
after that I went to lake side I felt cold water breeze there, spending time at
lake shore were so amazing, so relaxing than I went to restaurant side their
huts and few rides, khenjhar lake management have worked recently and made
khenjhar site more beautiful by adding rides, huts and garden. After visiting
Khenjhar Lake I decided not to waste my time and went to my last location that
is Jama Masjid (Shah Jahan Masjid).
This Mosque
is located in center of thatta city, its 17th century building,
mosque was built in period of shah jahan, during Mughal emperors, and its architecture
is inspired by Turkic and Persian styles.
When I entered in masjid it was evening time and different salesman were
selling food items in which Bhutta, popcorns, samosas, and others were
included. After that I saw some Ada’s who were selling beautiful jewelry pieces
and other decoration items, after purchasing decoration pieces and phrasing
their work I saw beautiful gardens, beautiful fountains and beautiful people,
many people were there for walk and jogging, after that I entered in masjid area
which was even more beautiful, Molvi Sahib gave azan because it was magrib
time, due to greenery the scenario was even more beautiful and the sunset was
making the views even beautiful, art of masjid was so much beautiful which
cannot be phrases by writing a single paragraph.
Overall
these two days tour made me realize how unlucky I was that I was not visiting
my home town, how I was ignoring my own city’s beauty, this tour changed my
perspective and motivated how lucky I am that I am part of this city, and how I
can proudly say that I belong to beautiful and historical city Makli Thatta.
