Nowadays ,In TV Channels’ news
often includes such scenes in which it is shown that since hard work of years
it has been stood art of building of masterpiece is demolished with the help of
explosive material. Sometimes it is presented the filming of demolition of any
long bridge and sometimes it is being removed the marks of ancient beautiful
building art declaring it useless.
Carved by the hands of same
generation like theirs which have ruthlessly demolished such masterpiece
buildings and their goals is to construct the old buildings with modern and
safe constructions, but after seeing the years of hard work are being
demolished in few seconds their hearts would be hurt too who have no relation
with these buildings .
Imagine for a second that after striving you created something so it
was spoiled or thrown in dustbinso what feelings in your heart. Of course, in
response to this question, the thoughts
that come to your mind, as a journalist, I have exactly the same feelings when
I write and send a column after hours or days of sweating, anxiously waiting.
And the next day I happily pick up the newspaper to review whether the words I
had created with my pen are smelling like flowers or are spiking someone like a
spikes.
My all warm hearted turns into
frustration when I don't see my column anywhere on the editorial pages. The
first word that comes to mind right now is ;censorship;.
In the same way, when I get
important news including documents, from
my important 'sources', so I reach the office in the form of a 'scoop'.
Excitedly, I let my boss (Bureau Chief) know the details of the breaking news,
waving a bunch of documents in front of him to show the importance of the
news but all happiness was turned to camphor by one
sentence. when he said that all is fine
but sorry dear we can’t broadcast this
news. After a long discussion with him
when I leaves his room in a heavy heart and defeated state, the same
word sticks in my mind 'censorship'.
Sometimes in the form of written
answers to questions in a Senate or National Assembly session, during discussion on a resolution, adjournment
motion or notice of attention, important information on certain topics is
obtained which the journalist tries to take on his own. Even if the shoes get
worn, it will not be possible to meet them.
when filing a news story based on such rare information or preparing a
script for a report, it is heartwarming to feel that this sensitive information
will tremble when it would be telecasted. However, the first shock comes when
the news or The copy editor who edits the script raises his hand first to get
the approval of the boss (Bureau Chief)
whether this information will be included in the news or report or not.
When try is made to get the
approval of the boss for the script of a filed news or report, the same Instructions are given only to mention that
information in this regarding was also provided to the House. So with depressed
face to this whispered news or report gives over voice the tough staggers many
times because the same word is stuck in
the mind'censorship'.
Social media has become more
popular than traditional media, the rise of
insanity of sharing information through tweets to create links with
'informed' journalists and important personalities on social media as well. With this, craze to increase the number of followers, so
this is an attempt to show what cannot be shown on traditional media by handing
it over to the waves of social media to see the ratings in Pakistan and worldwide.
Therefore on tweeter for your statement
it is restricted to 140 words only, you can use all your journalistic skills to
write such a short story and press the tweet option and read your own writing
and quickly see its likes and re-tweets. I am praising myself in the heart that suddenly the Whatsapp number of the boss flashing on
the screen in my mobile phone is illegible because after saying hello the other
side is instructing me in the same weird tone that immediately delete your tweet.
I try to discuss by offering many
rationalizations but on the other hand in a commanding tone the phone is hanged up saying do what is
said. In obedience with the command of
'Nokari Ki Te Nakhra Ki' I delete that tweet like a misspelled letter.
It is has been belonging to
journalism for more than two decades . Rattling
Freedom of the journalism and freedom of expression have always been on
my mind, saying that my freedom is limited to where the other's nose starts.
For years in the beloved country, this rattle has been crushed under heavy
boots and nowadays it has become a situation that others have pulled their
'noses' and made it so long that it is far to write in discipline for
Establishment and related matters. Even
if write the word space creature, then
this nose appears. spot light on the 'indiscriminate' justice of the judiciary,
then that nose comes like a wall .
Swindling in the general election
has also gone under the same nose, so the word plutonomic has also been banned.
Criticism of the Prime Minister and the government has become a means of
teasing others. Writing about banned organizations was like pulling hair out of
one's nose. ‘Harza Sarai’ about religious parties is also equivalent to offend
with the nose of another. Now no words written about religion here. There are a
lot of fatwas against you for hurting another 's nose.
In the name of protecting human
rights NGOs have also become so strong
that now there is not the slightest criticism that liberals start to hit their noses. Writing about advertising
mafias like Bahria Town has become to cut off the nose, and writing about this censorship has come under the category
of insolence which the administration organizations is tolerant to
tell that this nose of censorship has hurdle in freedom of expression.
In this atmosphere of nagging,
after the advice of family, relatives
and friends that now only your columns and news are missed but don't disappear
by yourself, all my emphasis on freedom of expression is only on these poor
politicians walks who have no nose at all.
Satisfactory
treatment of Pakistani media
However, no Pakistani newspaper
or news channel is tired of mentioning the sacrifices of the armed forces and
paramilitary forces in the war on terror.
Every channel or newspaper agrees
with voice of the state on India, Kashmir and Afghanistan.
No Urdu channel or newspaper
covers Pashtoon Protection Movement rallies or Manzoor Pashtoon statements
because sensitive State agencies believe that PTM's news coverage is not in the national interest. However, publicity
of condemnation is in the national interest.
The national media also refrains
from covering the occasional protest camps of the families of the missing
persons because this topic is also on the sensitive list.
Before, on the day of election
and after the July general election what was heard in this regard from a number
of national and international observers and political parties were also avoided
by the media's coverage of the debate because the stains are good and that's
how the journey of democracy should be continued.
The electronic and print media do
not think differently from the state in the context of
Pak-China relations and the CPEC
nor they cover the critical reporting of
the Western media on China's internal political and national issues and
contradictions.
Except Afghanistan and
Bangladesh, including Saudi Arabiathe statement of the media and the State is
more or less the same for other brotherly Muslim countries.
No textbook is taught in any
private or public educational institution or madrassa in Pakistan that
encourages constructive criticsdiscussions or questions on the comparison of
religions, ideology of Pakistan, history, basic State institutions and
parliament etc in resulting logic and knowledge making occur.
About all country wide and
foreign NGOs suspected of being directly or indirectly harmful for national and
State interests are either paralyzed or allowed to operate under new
strict rule and regulations.
The governing body of the
Al-Hamra Arts Council in the capital of largest province Punjab, has been
disbanded for apparently failing to curb laxity under the guise of stage
dramas, and the provincial information minister has ordered that he personally
direct dramas in the future. The script will be read and approved so that the
national cultural values can be properly protected.
Three weeks ago some speakers at
the Al-Hamra Arts Council's Faiz Mela, were barred from attending because they
feared they would mislead the younger generation. The media also refrained from
making this news.
In the last ten years the
attitude of the media towards the Imran government as compared to that of the
Zardari and Nawaz Sharif governments is still generally friendly or
semi-critical. The media is also aware of where the old-fashioned open
criticism of the current government can reach and what the potential economic
and editorial results of such arbitrariness could be for the media itself.
