In 1919 Hafiz Hayat Shah issued monthly magazine
"Al Hafiz", which was published by litho press Karachi. The first
daily newspaper of the Muslims of Sindh "Al Waheed" was published on
15th March 1920 . It was named after caliph Sultan Waheed uddin who was the
caliph of central caliphate Turkey. This newspaper was the interpreter of
caliphate movement, it interpreted the sentiments of the Muslims. It was joint
effort of Shaikh Abdul Aziz, Shaikh Abdul Majeed Sindhi and sir Abdullah Haroon
in the publication of that newspaper. In starting period of "Al
Waheed" Hakeem Shamsuddin was also the part of scriptory supporters
alongside others. Molana Deen Muhammad wafai was also included in the
administration staff therefore he stayed in Karachi. In the leadership of Abdul
Majeed Sindhi "Al Waheed" newspaper guided the Muslims of Sindh in
fields like social, practical, political, religious etc. This newspaper had its
own role to build common persuasion to separate Sindh from Bombay. Pir Hasam
Uddin Rashdi also praised "Al Waheed" newspaper in his book " ho
dothi ho dehen ". In the starting period National point of views were at
the peak at Hindustan level and it was important to stable unity of Hindu
Muslims for the independence, for that purpose deliberation and unemotionality
always dominated in the writing of "Al Waheed" newspaper and that
newspaper never done injustice and never hearted HindusIn the third decade of
the century "Al Waheed" newspaper gravitated towards personal
ideology and self interest of the Muslims. "Al Waheed" newspaper
basically was founded to expose the injustice with Muslims and Turks in
politics and caliphate issues done by the international power. Its Islamic face
was visible by its logo, "the only daily Islamic newspaper" was written on its logo.
"The Muslim gazette a weekly
english magazine was also started by the administration of "Al
Waheed" newspaper. In 1948 "Al Waheed" newspaper was banned and
its editor Molvi Ghafoor Setai was interned in his village. During that period
on 20th may 1948 Al Waheed limited mutated its name to Sindh after that the
editors of "Al Waheed" arrested time to time. Qazi Abdur Rehman and
shaikh Abdul Majeed Sindhi was also being arrested many times. In the starting
there were no headings in newspaper but after 1926 many changes were made in
newspaper, the headings were put in the news. In 1929 this newspaper was
updated from 6 to 8 pages. Firstly the most part was spared for the Khilafat
movement activities. In 37 years long period many people worked as editors of
that newspaper, some famous personalities who done editing job were Qazi Abdur
Rehman, Qazi Khuda Bux, Shaikh Abdul Majeed Sindhi, Shaikh Abdul Salam, Mir
Allah Bux Talpur, Rais Ali Muhammad Mari, Molana Deen Muhammad wafai, Deen
Muhammad Alaig, Abdul Kareem Chishti, Nabi Bux Sarki, Hakeem Shamsuddin,
Allauddin Samoon, Molvi Abdul Ghafoor Setai, Mushtaq Abro, Shaikh Abdur Raheem
etc. That newspaper was very famous newspaper of its time. Late Faiz Mohammed
soomro who done job for many years in
this newspaper, said that a limited company was made to run the newspaper, in
1945 when he started his job the chairman of the limited company was Shaikh
Abdul Majeed Sindh and company's managing director was Haji Abdullah Haroon.
This newspaper's office was located in Sir Abdullah Haroon building at frair
Road. Bohari jamaat khana was infront of its office. After that its office was
located in Sir Abdullah Haroon building at Blasis street new chhali. In 1955
"Al Waheed" press was auctioned because of extra debit took from
Sindh provincial bank
This
newspaper backed up the demand of Muslim league of separate country for Muslims
in 1938AD. Muhammad Ali Jinnah always gave the importance and respect to
"Al Waheed". Even once Quaid e Azam didn't addressed an important
press conference till a young smart reporter of "Al Waheed" newspaper
arrived. In that press conference Quaid e Azam suggested the switching of Hindu
and Muslim community before the partition of Hindustan. In the same year two
monthly magazines were introduced under "Jasoosi novel akhbaar" and
"Sindhi scout" from Hyderabad. Apart from that "Sikh traket
community" issued traket named as "Pankhrhyun", its editor was
Bhai veer Singh and interpreter was vidhyarti.
In 1921 late Jhetmal Pursaram Gulrajani issued a
monthly magazine "Rooh Rihaan" from Hyderabad to educate the people
about mysticism and Unitarianism and from Sukkur Moolchand Harisingh started a
15 days novel newspaper named as "Sansaar chakar". By this newspaper
many novels were translated and written in Sindhi language. "Rooh
Rihaan" magazine was issued according to theosafi theory and it was equal
for every religion. In it every religion's saint's poet's and philosopher's
point of view was published. That magazine was published till 1924 and after
that it was combined with "Bharat Vasi" newspaper. Till 1926 both
magazines continuously published and after that both were constipated. Once
again Jhetmal Pursaram started it in 1947 from Karachi and it also was
continuously published from India till his death. According to 1925's
publication it is clear that Mirza Nadir Baig son of Mirza Qalaich Baig was
also the part of administrative staff of "Rooh Rihaan" magazine.
In 1922AD
weekly "Shikaar Pur Samachaar" was published under the leadership of
Sachanand. This newspaper was started in the supervision of All India Congress.
News about Congress and programs arranged by them was published at most in that
newspaper. Sachanand issued another newspaper also named as Shikaar Pur
gazette. In 1923 AD a three days newspaper "Sindh zamindar" was
published from Sukkur and from Karachi in the same time period a monthly
magazine "Toheed" and from Larkara a magazine "Guldasta"
was published. Those three had their own importance. Guardianship of
"Guldasta" magazine was done by Sindhi Sudhar society and that
society was founded by Hakeem Miyan Ali Mohammed Qadri in 1915AD in Larkana.Faqeer
Miyan Ghulam sarvar Qadri, Nawaz Ali Niaz, and Haji Mehmood Khadim were with
him in the foundation of that society. At that time the old newspaper of
Larkana "Al haqeeqat" was at its peak, it played a big role in
spreading the message and achievement of goals. There was helping hand of
Muhammadan association in publication of "Sindh Zamindar" newspaper.
Its editors were Master Abdul Wahab, Mr Ali Ahmed Alaig, Pir Ali Muhammad
Rashdi, Pir Hassam Uddin Rashdi, Agha Nazar Ali, Molvi Abdul Ghafoor Setai, Dur
Muhammad owaisi and Hafiz Khair Muhammad Ohadi. Zamindar Pir Hassam Uddin
chawani issued "Sarkaar parast musalmaan" against "Al
Waheed" at britisher's Church. Agha Nazar Ali Khan was manager of
"Sindh Zamindar" for a short period of time and he was also the
editor of that newspaper.
Material
about religion and spirituality was published in "Toheed" magazine.
Religious, theoretic, reformative, historical monthly magazine was written on
its monogram. Political news were also published in that magazine. That
magazine was consist on 50 pages, qualified scholars of that time like, Ali
Khan Abro, Abdullah Channa, Molai Shedai, Molvi Abdul Kareem Chishti, Hakeem
Molana Mohammed Sadiq and Haji Mohammed Halai were the part of its permanent
writers. Many religious issues were raised and given solutions of those in that
magazine. That magazine was interrupted for some but in 1934AD it was started
once again.
In 1919AD a
weekly newspaper "Dharam Upkaar" was started, it lasted till 1925AD
most of the time it was consist of Hindu religion and articles were published
about it. Its editors were kishan Bhatia and Hareeram Bhatt. That newspaper was
published from Shikaar Pur. In 1924AD many newspapers and magazines were
introduced . Most valuable was "Musalmaan" newspaper which was
published by the landlords of Mirpurkhas and it's editor was Mohammed Hashim
'Mukhlis' , who was a great poet and ironist. In the same year weekly newspaper "Shikaar Pur
gazette" , "Al Hanif" and a monthly booklet "ghancha
Asad" was introduced and another weekly newspaper "Tanzeem" was
published, it's editor was Nawab Khaliqdar Khan 'Aajiz' who belonged to village
Jagan taluka Shikaar Pur and District Sukkur. He was a young educated and
enlighten person who always supported poor people. A weekly newspaper
"Itahaad" was published in the same year and it's editor was Ali
Mohammed Khan Mari. After that sowami Govind Aanand Nathai published
"Kesari" newspaper and it had its own level according to it's
material. A monthly magazine was produced from Hyderabad named as "Gancho"
and it was agriculture.
Another
important weekly newspaper "Noor ul Islam" was published by Molvi
Noor Mohammed Nizamani from Tando Allah yaar. Riyal sing relomal and professor
Tarachand introduced a weekly newspaper Melap which was interrupted in 1935AD.
"Noor ul Islam was published from Tando Allah yaar till 1929AD and for
some time it was published from Mirpurkhas and Tando Mohammed Khan press.
Moreover that from many places many weekly and monthly newspapers and magazines
were introduced like, Taraqi, Al Hanif, Depaka, Giyan, Shewa mandal etc.
Another important magazine "sachitar Mask Part" was published and
it's editor was Moolchand Tharu Mal. Religious and ethical literature was
published in it. In same year Moolchand Tharu Mal introduced another monthly
magazine "Sarawati sahita". Novels were also published in it.
"Taraqi" and "Al Hanif" were very important magazines which
were issued in 1924AD.
