TV: Radio was also in Pakistan at the time of formation
of country, but TV channel was started from 1964. In Europe and
America before the Second World War television was started on experimental
basis, but in 1940s its regular programs began to arrive
and from 1950 to 1960 television become dined. Originally in Pakistan in 1956
the TV station was planned to setup, on which an industrialist Wajid Ali worked
and in 1961 the county’s private sector established the first television
broadcasting company. From this TV channel the first news was arrived on 26
November 1964. In
this company the 50% of shares belonged to government. In 1971 under Zulfiqar
Ali Bhutto’s government the TV channel was taken into national control. This
channel did not run any Sindhi program or news. But after being in national custody,
daily 25 minutes program and 5 minutes Sindhi news started to begins. On Sindhi
electronic media the Sindhi news were first time read by Anis Memon in 1972.
After that in this sector Sahar Imdad, Fouzia Qureshi, Rashid Hamerani, Taj
Balouch, Mumtaz Shaikh, Khalil Channa and Saleem Memon continued to read Sindhi
news. With this Sindhi new sector was setup at center of Karachi, in which
Sindhi news producers and newscasters were appointed. Still today this sector
is established, for 5 minutes daily Sindhi news is broadcasted.
In the Government of General Pervez Musharraf private sector were allowed to setup television channels, after that the 1st TV channel of Sindhi Language in history was “K.T.N”(Kavash Television Network) was established. After two years in October 2004 Sindh TV was started and after that Awaz TV, Dharti TV, Mehran TV channel setup. KTN forward specifies a channel for news only named KTN News and KTN for drama and Kashish channel for music, Sindh TV made a seprate channel for News. KTN, Awaz, Sindh TV, and Dharti TV’s headquarters are in Karachi however Mehran TV is setup as a status of first TV channel of Hyderabad. KTN news was founded by Islam Qazi and Ali Qazi, the owner of Awaz TV is Sikander Jatio and owner of Sind TV is DR. Karim Rajar,WhileMehran TV was setup by Ex-comedian Ghulam Nabi Morai. Dharti TV owner have been changing. In the beginning Ex-comedian Abdul Qadir Mangi was among the founders. Currently some Memon Traders are running it. With TV channels in Sindh journalism a big change has come, as people receive the latest news with in few minutes. Of these channels across the country and especially in Sindh a network and correspondents has been established. A large number of journalists and cameramen have arrived in the field. In India Sindhi’s had done great work in the field of film and television. Asha Chand and other friends have made efforts for the Sindhi language. They launched Sindhi Sajar and Sindhi Kachi television. However Dur Darshan TV even started the Sindhi programs.
Radio: Radio also plays an important role
in electronic media. After the invention of radio in 1920, a few years later in
1926 the radio company operating in India and later it took the form of All
India Radio. In All India, radio stations were established in Lahore and Peshawar
and then come to Pakistan. In 1948 radio stations were in Karachi and Rawalpindi.
Karachi radio was of smallest level that was expanded in 1950. In 1951 radio
station was founded in Hyderabad. In 1974 Khaipur radio was founded however
Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto inaugurated the radio in Larkana in 1995. In the
time of military president General Pervez Musharraf in 2002, when the private
sector allowed FM radio stations to be licensed through auction, then Sindhi FM
radio were established in the corner to corner of Sindh. In these days one of
radio Pakistan’s headquarter of FM radio in district of Tharparker was
established in Mithi. In the private sector FM radio is setup in Karachi,
Nooriabad, Hyderabad, Tando Mahammad Khan, Tando Adam, Nawabshah, Dadu,
Khairpur, Larkana, Shikharpur, Ghotki and Umerkot. Sindhi programs and news are
broadcast in these areas except Karachi. They also have FM radio websites and
from there live programs can be listened. The Internet provides the facility
web radio can be played. Taking advantage of this facility Imdad Audhi from
London started on web Sindhi radio “voice of Sindh”. There in Mumbai Sindhi
radio has been going on from many years, which has six channels. The voice of
Sindh radio broadcasts news, interviews and current affairs programs. The radio
Pakistan was broadcasting Sindhi programs from the beginning, but Sindhi news
started later. In the days of Prime Minstar Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the news of
Radio Pakistan because of centrality was broadcasted from Islamabad, so Sindhi
news was also broadcast from there. Also at this time from radio Pakistan in
the morning, afternoon and evening for five to seven minutes of Sindhi three
news blogs are broadcasted.
May of the famous personalities of Sindh are
associated with Radio Pakistan, Amar Jalil, Agha Saleem, Inayat Baloch, Nisar
Memon, Naseer Mirza, Abdullah Wasser, Murad Ali Mirza, Ali Akbar Hingoro, and others are on great
positions on radio. Murtaza Solangi from 2008 to 2013 remained the managing
director of Pakistan broadcasting corporation. He was first in print media but
then moved to US where he worked for Voice of America. Similarly Javed Soomro
after working for few years in English newspaper in Karachi, is working for BBC
in London for past ten years. Riaz Sohail working in Sindhi journalism shifted to foreign media and working with BBC Urdu radio and web site.
