Daily news,
weekly news, fifteen days, literary magazines, digests, radio and then
television after all this now there has become innovation in journalism. Now it
has become necessity to know what readers want. There was a time when what was
told listeners were forced to read,
readers were forced to read, but this era is era of electric journalism,
journalism has become very fast due to numbers of TV channels, internet, social
media, mobile apps, there for to attract listeners and readers we have to work
hard. But not much of changes are seen in Sindhi journalism, there is lack of
professional journalists, there is lack
of journalists in the field of court
reporting, political , games and showbiz
issues, it can be clearly seen that these side of sindhi journalism is
at worst situation.
There are
many problems in cities like Karachi, Hyderabad and sukkur, but there is no any
professional or technical reporter for critical problem like weather
forecasting, that’s why our society is not receiving that kind of information
that how changes occur in environment, what are reasons? And its effects, what
are other problems? We know that the sindh depends upon agriculture but
unfortunately not only in district but in whole sindh there are limited or few
experts of agriculture and journalist are of certain number that we can count
them on fingers.
It cannot be
done just by reporting incidents doing talk shows or press conference because
people are already becoming aware of surroundings by just use internet and social
media, it’s time for change. And there is no any sequence between reporters
from cities headquarters to villages’ stations, which has created lot of
disturbance in journalism, as if there comes a news of archeology how reporter will report it how desk man will
read it anywise its has never been problem.
Still my
focus is about the reporters of small cities of sindh, in my short carrier of
journalism what I have noticed is that journalist do their work by thinking
them as authority, after all journalist or reporter is not authority but they
report those kind of things of which people are unaware and journalist cannot force anyone by
thinking them as authority it is on them that how they collect information
without creating any problems or disturbance or teasing/hesitating anyone and
shocking everyone which is involved in crime or that news so that they starts
to think where did he got all information, but if we talk about small districts or taluka or small villages
about any strike or any fights between families their reporters make news
taking money from any opposition party of any family to talk in their favor,
like strikers want fast relief after demonstration so reporters suggest them blame opposition for big cases
so police will take notice immediately.
There are
hundreds of examples and proofs, worst
thing is that reporters don’t even know about the diseases that occurs in
agricultural fields, like sometimes there is one disease in fields but
reporters report the other disease, likewise there is one thing told in report
but reported other by reporter, in my opinion there was a report in which it
was told that a man hit her wife with axe until she was dead just before she
was giving birth to a baby girl even it was a lie and false report but sindh
got bad reputation due to this, this whole blame was told by a journalist to
opposition family just for attention and police notice in real the report was
that man was just arrived at her wife’s home to take her with him because his
wife’s family were trying to marry their daughter with someone else when she
rejected to come with her husband than her husband injured her and her mother
with axe and was caught by police later was released on bail, likewise there
was another news that an unknown women is being kidnapped by some people, after
few hours the kidnapers were asking for
money, likewise there are some other news like this that unknown women are
being kidnapped in real those women just run away from home to marry their
loved ones.
Once a
journalist runs a report that a landlord/wadera has given fatwa of honor
killing of a man and women and has also made decision for ten lacks, that same
kind of news was run year later and sometimes these journalist help some people
out and this is same condition in whole sindh, once upon a time a sindhi friend
told that there is a news from district of north sindh that a man (xyz) has
been kidnapped different news run up to two three days for that report and
finally there was a case filled for kidnapping, after few year a lawyer was met
from that region he told me that the man who was reported as kidnapped was
charged for murder but due to his kidnapping no one filled case against him and no justice
was done to suffering ones, there are several cases like this, some are
reported willingly while some are reported without their will, journalist have
done worst just to make money, some journalist have cut hairs of victims male
and female just to make an issue, after some reports then it was concluded that
they cut their hairs themselves just to blame opposition, it’s my humble
request to news editors directors TV channels directors that please don’t
publish a news in hurry or without any proof because it creates bad reputation
of whole sindh. There must be some places where all these incidents happen in
real we should also keep eye on those incidents, there must be inquiry of that
news, if a incident is taking place somewhere we should also give full coverage
to it, because the conditions in ghotaki, Jacobabad and shikrpur are different
from matiari, nawabshsh, mir purkhas and tando Muhammad khan kash of khairpur
and city are of different conditions, people of thari, meer wah, faiz gung and
nari are different from other regions of khairpur, and people of gambhat, sobho
dero and peer goth are different from them. Their behavior their way of living
is different; there is change of nature in those people. Therefore the people
of nosheroferoz and larkana are of different nature and it’s important to
understand them, it is important to doubt a new to inquire it, if there is any
doubt in the news of reporter then it should be our duty to ask from the
victims or opposition through call or any other way to confirm the report.
One day a
policeman was caught in the house of his lover, that man was brutally beaten by people of that area, other day a
journalist wrote that policeman was tortured by using warm steel rod and putting
it on policeman’s private part, that policeman was ready to show journalist
his private part and telling him that
nothing like that was happened to me then why you wrote it, once there was
water issue between two parties and suddenly a 85 years old women died, they
put her dead body on the link road and by the help of journalist they said that
police and opposition attacked them that’s way she/old lady was killed in that
attack, some newspapers published that news and one who didn’t published were
blamed by those fraud journalist that these newspapers always publish false
news, only institutions can play a role to make journalism good, because with
this kind of false reporting our sindh is having bad reputation, nowadays there
are reporters in every corner and street that’s way there are fights everyday
between citizens and reporters/journalists. Now can you believe if someone is
doing corruption the one who should report is asking for their share from
corruption or harassing them that they will report news against them, lie that
some journalist have tortured many shopkeepers, medical store, doctors, and
other small businesses and schools to give them money weekly or monthly or they
will report a news against them, sometimes doing raid on police homes, any
attack on opposition and torture of women are also published and use cutting of
that news is used through lawyers to tease oppositions.
Now
journalists have also started to record clips of any meetings between people
through spy cams, and now common man or any known personality are feeling
insecure to tell truth to any journalist, some are running their business with
the help of journalists, besides of
doing any government job they are becoming journalist to secure themselves,
some are owning properties forcibly, doing drugs business with the help of
journalists, running police stations with their wishes, driving illegal
vehicles, there are involved in many wrong doings/ illegal works or if there is
any strike before reporting it to their concerned news channels they are
telling to oppositions just to make their contacts/relations, change is
necessary in this kind of journalism, because there has become lack of trust of
people in journalism, now due to these fraud/stupid kind or journalist people
are doubting all good journalists, nowadays journalists are busy in doing works
of wadera/land lords ASPS and other big businessmen, to save journalism from
becoming a business we needs a change.
