Viral memes: How Pakistani win  in terms of taunts and humour on social media.

“I thought whenever the world up would end, memes would also end. But I arrived white House through these memes. It makes me happy that I am still familiar”. It was said by Sarim Akhtar who illustrated anger, dispersion, and wonder on the changing situation moment by moment of the World cup 2019 between Pakistan and Australia.

Sarim Akhtar was a common man who lived in his small social network before he went to a match, but what happened that day?

Something occurred such a way that a picture was captured by a TV camera and in minutes screenshots of picture taken and picture was seen in memes. Now he has not remained a spectator of match between Pakistan and Australia, but now he has  become a public figure outside the match.

The story emerged from social media and digital networks and written in the moments. The central character of this magical story,  speaking to BBC, said that when he was watching the match he did not expect that he would become so familiar.

The perplexity journey began during the match when he got messages on whatsapp occasionally. And in a wink of an eye a lot of his memes have gone viral.

Sarim tells that not only pakistani fans but also Sirilankan and Indian requested him to take selfies with him.

Sarim said that memes have made him so famous that he could not imagine. He is the only one to be happy from his familiarity but also his siblings are quite happy. And whoever finds him in the memes he /she sends him which makes him more pleasant.

Meme creators do not only find the new people but they do not let go of old celebrities from its criteria, as the Samina pirzada is one example of this chain.

Samina Pirzada produces a program namely “Rewind with samina” She speaks with guests and asks questions about normal life and out of routine.

A lot of memes have been created on the basis of her asked question on her picture.

Her answer about it was quite simple “When my memes go viral on social media I enjoy them”. She told through these memes she knows how much her programm is popular, people watch it with concentration and spend their time in creating memes and thinking about it.

Samina told “I am thankful to all those who create memes, whatsoever spoken in the  programm is wholeheartedly and even no script is written. The reason behind this program was only to assay the artists. Therefore questions concerning their childhood are asked.

Many memes are made on Amir Liaquat the Member of national assembly, religious scholar and celebrity. When BBC asked to comment about it he said “I do not care about memes” and for him,  meme begins from Muhammad and ends on Mother.

What are the memes ?

If it considered that memes are the production of current media culture, it would not be wrong. Generally an emotional phrase written on a picture at a time allocating its context and uploaded on the social media, we call it meme.

It is a general perception that one picture is equal to one thousand words, but when a viral phrase is written on a picture it forms a surrounding meme on social media.

Who makes memes ?

Everyone can make memes, for this you need to write a phrase on the picture that may cause you to rise in emotions like anger or pleasure after being viral.

BBC talked pertaining to it with Abdul Rafy bin Sohail, Faheem Ahmed and Sidra Aslam, the admins of the meme pages on social media. And tried to know how memes are created and what is the story behind it.?

How memes are created?

Meme page admin Rafay seems quite serious and it makes people wonder how he creates such funny and effective memes. Faheem said that meme creating is not easy as it seems. For making memes he has to be active mentaly and keep his brain ready.

Creator and admin of rafay comics (A Facebook page)   has pleasant nature and is seriously humble in making memes. He says that amid creating memes you can not properly enjoy one thing because along it your brain is thinking how you will pick up memes from a material.

Sidra works for a website namely “Bolo Jawan'' and she is also a jolly and active personality. Along creating memes she also can perform copy acting of others.

Sidra said there is a lot of meme content created on social media and It is a tough competitive environment. It is not easy to collect material from memes and ideas among such huge creating meme content.

What reaction comes after creating a meme?

Memes become a cause of smiles for some people, but not for all whether they are creators or audiences.

Grining,  rafay tells that if he makes meme on Imran Khan he has to listen harsh words, therefor he tries to not check comment box after creating meme on Imran Khan.

However Sidra told that he has been making memes on Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz but once when she made a meme on Maryam Nawaz, she was blocked by Maryam Nawaz’s social media team.

Abdul Rafay said that he avoids seeing comment boxes after making memes. While Faheem said one has to face abusive language and revile. Even sometimes he has to delete the memes.

Although Sidra agrees with this argument that it should not be said in memes which cause emotional disturbance to someone. For instance, those who are alive should not be mentioned in memes. Sidra also said that there is a code of conduct for making memes.

Can money be earned through making memes?

Faheem and Rafay believe that there is no direct benefit of creating memes. Because facebook does not provide any money. But there are too many page likes therefor people ask to publish their advertisement on the page and for this they pay some money.

Sidra fully believes in opportunities of earning through creating memes. She said once a business brand contacted her to make a meme for their brand. And then she was paid for it.

Sidra says now business brands also regard that they need memes to promote their brand. Therefore it is time to earn some money  from memes.

What is the future of memes?

Sidra said memes have a bright future because people, especially youngsters, do not want to read more written content, they want everything on the plate in terms of fewer words.

Rafay has also hope that future is the time of memes. Faheem says memes are at its beginning  its ascendance is remaining.
