Traffic Congestion in Main Qasimabad Area

Qasimabad is one of the rapidly growing town and taluka of Hyderabad. The population rate has been increased during the last decades because of the migration from rural Sindh to Hyderabad specifically in Qasimabad.

 In these consequences one of the main issues is traffic congestion. Which have a huge number of negative effects on our society, people and their health. Because of increase in population there is increase in vehicles which is the main cause of traffic congestion. Many other problems are caused due to traffic congestion like environmental issues. It creates air pollution that comes from the emission of motor vehicles, as well as noise pollution caused by vehicle exhaust systems, engines, and loud horns and also water pollution. Traffic congestion occurs mainly at peak hours. The main areas of Qasimabad are mostly blocked because of traffic jam specially Poonam Chowk, main Naseem Nagar area, where violation of rules becomes the cause of traffic congestion. Over-speeding, not signaling, reckless driving, passing in a no passing zone, crossing the median, causes traffic jam. Driving behaviors of drivers are also important, drivers can tackle the situation when stuck in traffic by being calm and think accordingly instead of stressing out and being aggressive. There are higher chances of collisions and day by day the rate of road accidents are increasing due to tight spacing and constant stoping -and- going of cars.

Traffic congestion results in delays and late arrivals, it’s hard for people of Qasimabad to be at their destination on time, traffic results in late arrivals at employment, meetings, education, which causes huge personal or business losses, which results in road rage, stressed and frustrated people stuck in traffic jam encourages rude and verbal insults, physical threats, or dangerous threats to another drivers or people there in order to release frustration. Traffic congestion also waste time of motorists and passengers. These blocked traffics also interfere in emergencies, passengers travelling are blocked and interfered with their emergencies where they are urgently needed. Traffic congestion causes serious health problems among people like high / low blood pressure, stress, depression, irritation, frustration, asthma, cardiac attacks while shouting, breathing problems, and lungs problems and others caused due to air pollution and noise pollution.

Recent surveys (by whom?) have also highlighted that driving behaviors of young adults are also a cause of traffic congestion like using mobile phones and texting while driving, it can also be caused by inefficiency in driving. According to respondents narrow roads, congested and damaged roads, encroachment on the roads and the absence of traffic police and traffic signals are the major reasons of traffic congestion. Less part of road is paved and half of it is unpaved where there is parking of building residents with makes roads more congested.

According to the 2017 census the population of Qasimabad taluka was 304,899. Due to increase in population the vehicular traffic also increases which is difficult to manage by traffic police and authorities due to congested roads, they do not have capacity to accommodate current traffic so there is an extreme need to resolve all these issues otherwise it can cause severe problems for the residents of Qasimabad in upcoming years. It is necessary to encourage people to follow traffic rules which will bring a huge change in the issue of traffic congestion in the cities. Also there is an urgent need to implement on transportation policy in Qasimabad first because traffic congestion is ruining infrastructure and road condition worst with time. People need to minimize private transport and promote public transportation. There must be availability of traffic signals, navigation systems, and traffic police where needed so that the commuters must follow traffic rules and that traffic congestion must be avoided. Roads must be paved so that they are more wider and easy to drive. Improve the condition of roads by cleaning all the garbage present their and improving sewage lines to avoid water logging on roads for days and months. By implementing on above solutions and following rules and regulations we can reduce traffic congestion to a certain extent.
